Pedro Martín claims the unity and weight of Tenerife socialism in the Canary Islands

The new one Insular executive of the PSOE in Tenerife has the support of the 97% of delegates accredited in Congress. It adds up to 19%_more support than it got four years ago. That one had 36 components, the current one has 39. Peter Martin He leads it after being proclaimed secretary general of the Tenerife Socialists yesterday for his second consecutive term. He did it in a congress that closed claiming unity as “a tool to value the importance, weight and relevance of Tenerife socialism in the Canary Islands as a whole, which also touches.”

Martín is optimistic about the elections to be held next year: “I trust to win with solvency in the Cabildo and in the municipalities”, but admits that “we will have to agree”. With whom? His response: “with almost everyone”, and Vox (he refused to pronounce his name) or the Canarian Coalition are almost not there: “We negotiated on an electoral program. It’s over coming to the elections with the cards marked and where there was a party that said don’t criticize me too much because if not, after the elections I won’t agree with you. Now we tell him that we don’t need you, that we don’t want to be with you.”

Focusing on the Island Corporation, which he now presides over, he sent a clear message to the nationalists, also without an express citation: «They have been thinking for 30 years that the Cabildo and Tenerife is theirs, but it has run out; that they go to the opposition, that they let us manage and let us solve problems of years. Let’s start working thinking about people, looking them in the eye».

executive

In an 18-minute speech (including a round of applause), the general secretary of the PSOE in Tenerife spurred on the congressmen: “I don’t want by my side pedromartinistsI want socialists.” It affected unity and an Executive in which the change in the Organization Secretary stands out, which falls to Manuel Martínez in substitution of Josefa Mesa, who becomes president, as well as the creation of a new position, the Deputy Secretary of Organization, premiered by Carmen Nieves Rodríguez Fraga. Aarón Afonso and Marián Franquet remain as deputy secretaries and Airam Pérez assumes Municipal Policy.

Mena attended

The first task that the secretary general set for the insular Executive is to face the managers of Garachico, Tacoronte and Arona. “That is not just a problem, it is an open wound for the socialists of Tenerife. Hopefully the work of the insular and regional executives and, by the way, the height of sights, help us to finally be able to solve those problems». A reflection that led him to state that “only by giving in, only by seeking solutions that go beyond individual interests, will we be able to solve the problems in these municipalities and push the party to win the elections.” Among the audience was the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, expelled and reinstated by court ruling.

Hector Gomez

The spokesman for the Socialist Group in the Congress of Deputies did not hesitate to describe the 2023 electoral calendar as a “titanic challenge”. in his defense of the management of the war crisis. Unity, perseverance and work “from tomorrow” is what he expects from the island Executive of the PSOE in Tenerife. “You have to go out and fight without hesitation,” he emphasized after addressing the president of the regional Executive to ensure that “Ángel Víctor has dignified Canarian politics.” He did so after asking “to leave our skin so as not to go back 50 years”, thus warning of the danger posed by the extreme right and the PP’s flirtation with it, citing the pact that governs Castilla y León.

Angel Victor Torres

“We are going to work and kill ourselves so that there is no representation of the extreme right in any administration of the Canary Islands”, where the socialists “will not go with them or from here to the corner”. So eloquent was the general secretary of the PSOE in the Islands. Ángel Víctor Torres demanded that the rest of the political formations speak out on the matter and clarify “if what they say on a Monday is the truth or what they make him correct on a Tuesday”, alluding to the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez. “This is a clear message that those who fool around to maintain, recover or obtain power with the extreme right must receive. They are the ones who have to give explanations », he sentenced.

“We negotiated on a program. It is over to come to the elections with the marked cards »

Pedro Martín – Insular General Secretary of the PSOE

This “Arucas canary”, as he defined himself, began by thanking the PSOE of Tenerife for the support that allows him to be president of the Canarian Government and regional socialist general secretary. He then highlighted Martín’s work: “Pedro, you have managed to sew different sensitivities”, referring to the unity reflected in the figures of support for the Island Executive (97%), the Regional Committee (99%), the Committee island (97%) and the Island Ethics Committee (100%). “You are the one who has done the best, without a doubt,” he assured, comparing these data with those of the rest of the island congresses of the PSOE.

In his speech, Torres took stock of the management of the pact of flowers, spoke about how the Executive is dealing with poverty on the Islands, referred to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and concluded with a message to the party: «This is a responsible, serious, rigorous and brave PSOE that will be by your side, in the moments bad, of the people who are suffering. And so we will win
