During his speech, MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar explained that “the most important thing” is that citizens find in the Socialists “a reliable party”, especially in a context in which “the extreme right poses a threat like never before.” I had known in the democratic stage”. He pointed out as its allies both the Popular Party and the Canarian Coalition.
Among the guests were trade union organizations. The Secretary of Organization of the UGT Canarias, Héctor Fajardo, highlighted the historical links between the two organizations. “We like this Socialist Party, because it has recovered the social dialogue between business and union organizations and it is to be appreciated that they have been its promoters.” In addition, he recalled “the courage” of the PSOE “to legislate a new labor reform.” For his part, the general secretary of the CCOO Canarias, Inocencio González, highlighted the socialist unity in Tenerife to refer to it as a commitment that, in his opinion, should be translated “for the benefit of the citizenry”.
