SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 18. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Parliament of the Canary Islands will hold next week the ‘Debate on the State of Canarian Nationality 2022’, the first of this tenth legislature that may take place with some normality after the start of the pandemic.

The president of the Chamber, Gustavo Matos, recalls in a note that in 2020, what would be the first debate of the legislature, was suspended a few days after its celebration due to confinement during the state of alarm.

Last year it was possible to develop thanks to the technological impulse of these last two years and the corresponding regulatory modification in record time, which has allowed the presence, participation and voting of all the deputies through a mixed system (face-to-face and online).

On that occasion, the three days of sessions were held with reduced capacity in the plenary hall, physical presence also in the Europa room and, on the other hand, telematic assistance from the different islands.

Matos points out that next week’s plenary session will be the second to be held, since March 2020, with the full plenary hall – the first took place last week.

In this sense, it explains that the application of level 1 measures implies the obligation to attend the session in person and thus decreases the possibility of presence, intervention and telematic voting.

As for the moment in which the debate is held, the president highlights the special importance it acquires due to the current political, social and economic scenario.

“The news has not given respite in recent years, which suggests an intense debate with a huge political burden.” Likewise, a wide coverage is expected by the media, which will also reach the Parliament from the non-capital islands.

The session will begin next Tuesday, at 11:30 a.m., with a speech by the President of the Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, for a maximum of two hours and in the afternoon, starting at 4:00 p.m., it will be the turn of the groups of the opposition.

Thus, the Nationalist Group will begin followed by the Popular and the Mixed, which will divide the time between Vidina Espino and the Cs deputy, Ricardo Fernández.

On Wednesday, starting at 9:00 a.m., it will be the turn of the quadripartite groups –ASG, NC, Sí Podemos and PSOE– and on Thursday the resolution proposals will be debated with 30 minutes of intervention per group.
