SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 18. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Ukrainian community will demonstrate again this Sunday, starting at 12 noon in the Plaza de La Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to demand a ceasefire in the war in Ukraine and an end to the Russian invasion.
In a statement they point out that they directly suffer “the horror” of the war because their relatives “are dying under fire and the criminal actions of Russian artillery and missiles or have had to follow the tortuous path of exile and become war refugees. .
They also indicate that the Russian aggression is the “most infamous and heinous” act of invasion of one state against another that has occurred in Europe since the invasion of Poland by Hitler’s armies in 1939 and also represents the “greatest danger” to which European society faced since the foundation of the European Union.
In his opinion, “Vladimir Putin’s attack is an attack on our model of life based on the pre-eminence of the rule of law and respect for human rights and international treaties, it has launched not only a completely illegitimate military invasion , has unleashed a criminal and indiscriminate offensive against the Ukrainian civilian population that is dying defenseless under the fire of its military machine”.
Along these lines, they indicate that “Russian attacks do not respect the lives of civilians or the most basic international conventions on the protection of the civilian population in the event of war, their purpose is at all costs the destruction of a free and democratic Ukraine comparable to any European country”.
For the Ukrainians of Tenerife, “the death and exodus of civilians is not a damage that matters to the Russian autocracy, human life has no value for a war criminal like Vladimir Putin.”
In addition, they warn that the “mass exodus” of Ukrainian citizens and the humanitarian catastrophe “has only just begun” so that Europe “should not and cannot be a mere witness because its model of society is a threat to Vladimir Putin” .
The Ukrainians maintain that this invasion “is an attack against the model of life and the project of a peaceful and developed European Union, since the union of free and democratic countries is a threat to a dictatorship like Vladimir Putin’s Russia.”
For this reason, they understand that “Spain cannot remain impassive in the face of the drama of the Ukrainian people.”
