The work on the car park on the adapted path of Monte del Agua has been completed

The Council of Tenerife has informed this Thursday of the Completion of the works for the adaptation of the parking lot on the adapted path of Monte del AguaLocated in the Teno Rural Parkwithin the Tenerife municipality of the silos.

The institution specifies in a statement that the investment that has been made €49,182 will facilitate the access to the route enabled for people with mobility problems. The works that have been carried out have focused on the improvement of the pavement in the parking area and the access track from the island road TF-82 to provide an adequate rainwater evacuation and avoid puddlesas well as the creation of three parking spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM), with its corresponding signalingand one turning zone at the end of the parking area that will facilitate the return of vehicles safely.

Water Mount Trail

The Monte del Agua path has a 1.6 kilometer adapted route with a 4% average slopewith some tranche of 10%. It circulates on a compacted land that in the final section has a wooden floor.

Along the path there are three rest areas and is enabled with guide elements for people with blindness and visual impairmentin addition to with panels with accessible information and downloadable audio for smartphone (QR) in various languageyes

This trail passes through one of the richest and most complex laurel forest ecosystems of all those in Canary Islands. The laurel forest is what is called a living fossil, since these forests occupied the Mediterranean arch millions of years ago, until it only remained in the Canary Islands and other areas of Macaronesia, due to different climatic crises. The importance of this forest lies in its ability to capture water, prevent erosion and provide a habitat for a large number of endemisms, which makes it a key space for the conservation of the biodiversity of the Islands.

Among the characteristic plant species of the laurisilva we find about 20 specimens, including heather, aceviño, Linden, viñatigo, barbusano and willow which, together with mosses and lichens, form a forest mass that grows leafy due to the great water supply brought by the trade winds. And not only the flora is important in the laurel forest. In it there is also an important presence of fauna such as birds. You can see the Blackbird (Turdus medulla) and the Robin (Erithacus rubecula), or the rabiche pigeons (Columba junoniae) and turquoise (Columba bollii). A large number of invertebrates are also common in this forest.
