Up to 61 trees in the capital suffered some type of damage as a result of the passage of the stormy Celia in Santa Cruz. That is the final balance of the Public Services area, directed by Carlos Tarife, on the damage that the green areas, the most affected by the wind, suffered in the municipality. By districts, Salud-La Salle and Centro-Ifara, where the largest mass of trees in the capital is concentrated, not counting Anaga, were the ones that presented the most incidents. Specifically, 25 and 24 trees were damaged, respectively.

Most of the trees were affected by broken branches, although in Salud La Salle four trees ended up overturning, and another two were broken by the force of the wind. The breaking of branches and the overturning ended up affecting a car parked on Jorge Manrique street, the cutting of a lane on La Constitución avenue and the breaking of a telephone cable on José Manuel Guimerá avenue.

In Centro-Ifara another four overturned, two took off their shoes and another two ended up fractured by the trunk. The García Sanabria park is located in this district, which remained closed until yesterday to complete the cleaning work. Precisely the fall of branches in this space caused damage to two vehicles parked in the vicinity of the park.

In Anaga only one tree was damaged, with branches breaking, while in Ofra-Costa Sur five specimens were affected, the overturning of one of them damaged a car. In the Southwest, another 6 trees were damaged, the overturning of one of them ended up affecting a parked car, and the fall of another forced the road where it was located, on Mayantigo Street, to be cut.

Thus, a total of 61 trees were counted, 13 overturned, four fractured, two barefoot and 38 suffered broken branches. One more presented a partial collapse in Centro-Ifara.

Other damage from the Celia storm in Santa Cruz

To these damages stormy Celia in Santa Cruz We must add those suffered by the municipal nursery where there was numerous damages, with broken windows, falling branches, mesh roofs and broken plates in herbaceous and ornamental plants.

Regarding the performance of cleaning services during the storm, the City Hall of Santa Cruz, through the Public Services area, indicates that it intervened in the numerous incidents in terms of street cleaning, which occurred due to the Celia storm. The actions of the cleaning devices doubled with the displacement of containers and the fall of leaves, branches and trees as a result of the rain and strong winds.

The Councilor for Public Services and the Environment of the Consistory of the capital, Carlos Tarife, values the overexertion and involvement of the workers during the past few days to contribute to the safety of the residents of the municipality. “The afternoon shift has been reinforced, increasing the workforce by ten workers during the work round, to respond to all needs”, indicated Tarife.
