
The municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife registered 2,369 new jobs last February, which represents an increase of 1.89% with respect to the percentage of affiliations to the Social Security (SS) with respect to the month of January of this same year, data that the mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, values as “very positive and that mark a trend of economic recovery and, therefore, of generating new employment opportunities” and adds that “in fact, these figures represent more than half (51%) of all registered affiliations to the SS in all of Tenerife (4,638)”.
Regarding the behavior of the affiliations, two years after the confinement decree by COVID-19, Santa Cruz de Tenerife currently has 4,677 more affiliates than at the beginning of the pandemic and grows +3.80% in the two years, data that are revealed to be much higher than those registered in the other province (+2.66%) and triple with respect to the growth of the Island of Tenerife (+1.33%).
Since the beginning of this local mandate, after July 2020, the growth of Social Security affiliates in this municipality has increased by +11.5%, which represents more than 13,000 new affiliates, data that is very positive and which account for more than 40% of the new affiliates in this period throughout the island of Tenerife.
In year-on-year figures, this municipality records 7,314 new affiliations to the SS compared to February 2021, in which it had 120,521 affiliations and that after this last year, in which there have been numerous periods of restrictions that have affected the economy of sectors that concentrate the largest number of jobs of this municipality, such as commerce, restaurants and leisure, show a result of affiliations of 127,835 in this capital, 33% of all those registered on this Island (357,123).
