SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 15. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Antonio Armas Fernández, president of Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea, passed away this Tuesday, the company reported in a statement in which it deeply regrets his death and conveys its deepest condolences to family, friends and relatives.
Son of the company’s founder, Antonio Armas Curbelo, he took over from his father in 1968 and was a pioneer in 1973 in the introduction of ‘roll-on’ vessels in inter-island traffic in the Canary Islands.
Likewise, for 50 years he has been responsible for the growth of the company, reaching different milestones such as the start of mixed passenger traffic or the acquisition of Trasmediterránea.
In addition, the president of the shipping group received last year the ‘Gold Medal of the Canary Islands 2021’ in recognition of the company’s 80 years of existence.
The company states that it is “deeply affected by this sad event” and conveys condolences to the family.
