The Aldeatrón Robotix team was proclaimed the winner of the tournament yesterday First Lego League Canarias 2022in the final that was held at the Iactec Technology Center of the Tenerife Science and Technology Park (PCTT), located in Las Mantecas, The lagoon. The award ceremony was attended by the Minister for Innovation, Enrique Arriaga, the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, Ernesto Pereda, and the CEO of the Tenerife Science and Technology Park, Raquel Lucía Pérez Brito.

The Council of Tenerife, through the Science and Technology Park of Tenerife and the Engineering Soy Association, have been the organizers of the Firts Lego League Canarias Qualifying Tournament, which has brought together a total of 37 teams and more than 220 participants in this great event of science, technology and fun. He added that this tournament “helps create innovative talent on the island and joins other actions and programs launched by the PCTT whose objective is the training of people linked to information and communication technologies, in order to adapt their training and experience to the current demand of companies, promoting the direct creation of employment in the insular area».

The scientific project carried out by Aldeatrón Robotix is WAPack, an innovative filler for online shipments, made mainly with local cardboard or paper waste and starch from the remains of banana or potato crops, which avoids excessive unsustainable packaging.

First Lego League uses themed challenges to engage young people, ages six to 16, in investigation, problem solving, and science. It is divided into two categories: the FLL Explore, which welcomes teams with members between the ages of six and nine; and the FLL Challenge teams, whose members range in age from ten to 16 years old. It is an international program that promotes STEAM skills, linked to science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

The organization appreciates the participation of the more than 50 volunteers without whom the First Lego League Canarias Qualifying Tournament would not have been possible, as well as the commitment of collaborators such as the Lego Education Foundation and the collaborators of the event in the Canary Islands such as the University of La Laguna, Colegio Hispano Británico, CIFP César Manrique, Isola, Tirma, Fauca, Gateway Tic, Volcano Teide and Alonso y Alonso.
