The tenth edition of the First Lego League Canarias takes place over two days, yesterday and today, at the facilities of the Tenerife Science and Technology Park. The Councilor for Innovation of the Cabildo, Enrique Arriaga, informs that 220 contestants from six to 16 years old participate, integrated into 37 teams and two categories.

The First Lego League Canarias Qualifying Tournament is an international program that promotes scientific and technological vocations among young people based on different learning experiences. This is already the tenth consecutive meeting to be held in Tenerife. Enrique Arriaga, highlights in the presentation that “this tournament seeks innovative talent, minds that face any challenge from a scientific or technological perspective.” He emphasizes that “this contest allows us to discover brilliant young people with important scientific vocations every year.” More than 680,000 young people in 110 countries participate in this contest.

The counselor points out that “this is a special edition because PCTT celebrates 15 years since its start-up”. The anniversary includes several actions.

In the FLL Explore category – boys and girls from six to nine years old – 21 teams participate, of which 19 are from Tenerife and two from Gran Canaria. In the FLL Challenge there are 16 groups, with young people from ten to 16 years old, of which 14 are from Tenerife and two from Gran Canaria.

It will be a live tournament. Today in the morning the FLL Challenge teams will participate in the so-called Robot Game in the IACTEC building of the Tenerife Science and Technology Park, at its headquarters in Las Mantecas, in the municipality of La Laguna. The closing ceremony will take place in the same building where the medals and trophies will be awarded.
