The municipality of The Sauzal took advantage of the celebration of International Women’s Day to add a new edition of the Sauzalera Woman Awardswhich in 2022 have wanted to recognize the value and personal trajectory of women from fields as diverse as volunteering, psychology, education, livestock or science. El Sauzal Theater was the scene of this local tribute, organized by the municipal area of Equality, to “make visible the work of sauzaleras capable of inspiring other women to follow their path and help close the gender gap.”
The honorees were Gabriela Exposito Diaza rancher who has dedicated practically her entire life to caring for animals and the primary sector; Maria Candelaria Garcia Gonzalezan outstanding Spanish Red Cross volunteer; Maria Pilar Dominguez Nodapresident of the Heart and Life Association of the Canary Islandswho has also received the Friendly Prize for Tourism and Citizen Coexistence and the Gold Medal from the Government of the Canary Islands; Vanesa Perez Bencomoforensic and prison psychologist who, altruistically and voluntarily, has devoted herself to caring for people with anxiety problems as a result of the coronavirus pandemic for months; Taida Marin Santosa specialist in hematology and hemotherapy and a doctor in Health Sciences, who is in charge of training the youngest to make them understand “the importance of health”, and Mary Herrera Nodaa journalist for Televisión Canaria who, in the exercise of his professional work, has helped to give visibility to the municipality in the La Gaveta del Tiempo section of the program Buenos Días Canarias.
The mayor of El Sauzal, Mariano Perez (CC)accompanied the winners, along with the mayor of Equality, Jacobo Gonzalez (CC)and dedicated a few words of affection and recognition to them for their inspiring personal and professional careers in such diverse and necessary fields.
The act of handing over the Sauzalera Woman Awards 2022 also featured live performances by the theater company abubukakathe violinist Ana Obando and the students of the Municipal School of Ballet.
