The four mayors and Sara Cabello, yesterday, in El Rosario.

The three mayors of the Güímar Valley (Candelaria, Güímar and Arafo) and their counterpart from El Rosario met yesterday to ratify the agreement between the four municipalities for the evacuation of part of the wastewater from the Güímar Valley Industrial Estate to the treatment plant industrial area of the La Campana estate, in the municipality of El Rosario, as it is the first of its kind built in the Canary Islands and, therefore, the only one authorized to treat these effluents.

Councilors Escolástico Gil (El Rosario), Mari Brito (Candelaria), Gustavo Pérez (Güímar) and Juan Ramón Martín (Arafo) held a meeting at the El Rosario City Hall, in which the first deputy mayor of El Rosario was also present. Rosario, Sara Hair. In said meeting, they highlighted the high degree of coordination and understanding between the four municipalities to solve the discharges of the Valle de Güímar Industrial Park while its corresponding treatment plant is put into operation, which has suffered delays in its execution.

Escolástico Gil stressed that “the help we provide to these municipalities is a moral victory over those who denounced me for building the La Campana treatment plant, which has now become the solution for the Güímar Valley.” He confirmed that “there is capacity to collect these waters and it never crossed my mind to deny myself. The sea belongs to everyone and what affects the waters in Candelaria, Güímar or Arafo also ends up affecting El Rosario”. However, Gil did miss the fact that the Tenerife Water Council had contacted El Rosario to coordinate this solution, as established in the agreement. “The Government of the Cabildo left El Rosario lying around and now the same thing has happened again,” censored the mayor.

Mari Brito thanked the good predisposition of the City Council of El Rosario and highlighted “the unity of municipalism that in emergency situations like this is capable of providing a quick and effective solution.” Also, the mayor of Güímar stated that “the consequences of the delay in the construction of the treatment plant exceeds the municipalities, from the municipalities we are clear that this should be above conflicts between administrations and parties.” In the same way, Martín explained that “on this issue municipalism has triumphed to go hand in hand in something that could be a conflict, but has become a symbol of union.”

The Vice-Ministry for the Fight Against Climate Change obliges to reduce the pollutant load of the Güímar industrial estate, which entails transporting up to 240 cubic meters of wastewater a day to La Campana. The measure will be in force until the 28th of this month at the latest.
