SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife and the City Council of La Victoria will increase by 44 (33%) the dependency care places in the municipality through the expansion of the three current municipal-managed socio-health infrastructures.

With this increase, the municipality will have a total of 177 places to care for people in situations of dependency.

This follows from the collaboration agreement presented this Wednesday by the island president Pedro Martín, the mayor of Victoria, Juan Antonio García Abreu, and the third vice president and island councilor of Social Action, Marián Franquet.

Pedro Martín explained that this agreement implies an investment of 2.4 million euros with which the Cabildo wants to improve infrastructure “that will not only serve La Victoria, but will also allow it to meet the demand of the entire region.”

In this context, he recalled that its implementation is part of the lines of work that are being developed by the current island government to promote investment in the social area as a fundamental tool for social balance.

The mayor, Juan Antonio García, thanked the Cabildo de Tenerife for its “support and sensitivity” and announced that the City Council will start working “right now” to put the works out to tender, which have the projects and the necessary land.

“These are projects in which we have very advanced contract specifications and for which we are not going to waste a second to make them become a reality,” he added.

For her part, Minister Marián Franquet highlighted the collaboration with the City Council and announced that this is the first of a series of agreements that the Cabildo de Tenerife plans to sign with the municipalities “to implement a faster and more efficient model than the one was doing until now and in which a response is given to the diversity of dependent needs that exist in the different areas of the island”.

PAYMENT IN TWO YEARS

The agreement includes the financing by the island corporation of 2,421,149 euros, through two annuities (2022 and 2023), with which the execution of expansion and equipment works will be carried out in the Residence for the Elderly La Victoria de Acentejo, the La Vera Multi-residence for people with disabilities and the La Victoria Occupational Center.

Likewise, a parking area will be created for the fleet of municipal vehicles destined for dependency services.

Carrying out these works will allow the creation of 44 new municipal management places, with which the municipality will have a total of 177 places.

Of these, 46 are managed by non-profit entities and the rest, 131, are municipally managed.

Of the 44 new beds, including 24 residential beds, a total of 23 will be in the Nursing Home, which will reach 58; Another 15 new places will be in the Occupational Center, until adding 61 and 6 new residential places in the La Vera Residence for people with disabilities up to 12.

As for the places managed by non-profit entities in the municipality, 40 are for people with cerebral palsy (10 residential and 30 daytime), managed by the entity I want to be like you and 6 residential places for people with serious mental illness, managed by the entity AFES.
