SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Citizen Support Initiative for People Affected by the volcano on the island of La Palma has called the first concentration of those affected, which will take place next Saturday at 12:00 in the Plaza de las Cortes in front of the Congress of Deputies in Madrid.

As he explains in a note, “those of us affected continue with the fight that began on September 19, manifesting ourselves before the local administrations, claiming and giving voice to all those affected and the displaced”, and remember that there are more than 7,000 who still do not have certainty of his immediate future.

They point out that the Ombudsman has opened an ex officio investigation regarding the management of public administrations in the distribution of donations, the delay in the delivery of housing -many affected still continue to live precariously-, the lack of aid to those affected or how speculation has multiplied the price of land by 1,600%.

On the other hand, they criticize that both the central government and the Government of the Canary Islands “continue to ignore” the information requirements aimed at providing the technical reports of the last five years from the National Geographic Institute and Involcan, together with the maps of volcanic risk carried out in previous years.

For those affected, these “may represent the technical basis that allows the patrimonial claim to both administrations, since after reading different reports and published studies it is verified that since October 2017 a more than foreseeable and imminent eruption of the volcanic in La Palma, right in the area where the volcano finally exploded on September 19, 2021.

“It is unheard of that in international reference journals, experts published scientific studies that supported a future eruption, as happened four years earlier, and that the Administration did not alert citizens in order to safeguard their movable property and secure real estate,” he said. said the spokesman for the Citizens’ Initiative.

“Today we witness the blessings and congratulations of science in our country for how the catastrophe has been managed, while neither the Involcan nor the Pevolca nor the town councils nor the Cabildo de La Palma or the Government of the Canary Islands lent a single minute of attention to preparing the citizen for the more than possible eruption. Now we confirm that they acted irresponsibly, and from this derives a more than probable patrimonial responsibility for the lost heritage”, added the spokesman.

It also points out that those affected have suffered a loss of property that affects their lives and those of their families. “If the local administrations had done their homework, today the impact would have been testimonial and could have been avoided, while the Spanish State and the Canarian Government today looked the other way offering alms for our heritage.”
