One of the vats, yesterday morning, extracting the waste from the Edari to take to La Campana.

Tanks belonging to two companies have been carrying out the transfer since Friday from the Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate to the industrial treatment plant of the La Campana Industrial Estate, as agreed by the municipalities of Candelaria, Arafo and Güímar, after the approval of the same Friday of an agreement with the Consistory of El Rosario.

The mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, insisted again yesterday on solidarity with the three mayors who “are having a hard time” and approved the transfer the same Friday, despite the fact that the agreement will be signed tomorrow, for which the three councils commit to pay 22,000 euros to El Rosario, in addition to the payment of 45,945 euros each for the contracted tankers for the entire month. However, it is likely to be less, if, as indicated by the Insular Water Council, the biological treatment of the Edari is installed shortly and pre-treated water can be discharged into the sea, as indicated by the latest authorization given by the Vice-Ministry Fight Against Climate Change, which expires on March 28 at 2:00 p.m.

Until now, around 200 cubic meters of discharges have been transferred per day, less than 25% of what is produced. La Campana has a free capacity of 240 cubic meters.

Luisa Castro, former mayor of Güímar, insists that the cost of the vats should be paid by the Cabildo, for which she does not understand the position adopted by the three city councils, considering that it is a supra-municipal competence and, furthermore, “it is the Cabildo is to blame for the fact that the Edari is not finished before the authorization expires”.
