The Arico Day Center for the Elderly has the capacity to attend to 24 people and yet, it currently has 15 users. A situation that is considered serious considering that the municipal “waiting list” is 40 people. This situation is due “to the delays of the Government of the Canary Islands in recognizing dependency” to the applicants for one of the authorized places.
John Joseph Arms, Dácil Cano, Pedro Andrés González and Davinia García, councilors of the Canarian Coalition (CC), describe as “madness” that these 40 people have to wait to access an essential service “because of the delay of the regional Executive at the time of apply the Dependency Law”. the regional deputy Rosa Davila recalls that the Canary Islands “is the community where dependency aid is most expected”, an average of 932 days – compared to 432 in the country – until receiving a response from the administration.
The nationalist mayors, who are part of the tripartite that governs the Arico City Council (along with PP and Primero Arico) recall that the Cabildo de Tenerife has already awarded the works for build the social health center of Abades, which will be located on a site annexed to the current Senior Day Center. “This is a project that comes from the CC stage in the island government,” emphasize the councilors. Its commissioning will allow the incorporation of 76 residential places aimed at the elderly in the municipality.

This is one of the issues that Rosa Dávila will bring to the table in the Parliament of the Canary Islands in her capacity as regional deputy for Tenerife. To this will be added the demand for a newly built school to be built in Abades. She would cover the more than 300 students who reside in the eight coastal towns, who today move to centers far from their place of residence. “The municipality loses students and roots, since many families prefer to take their children to San Isidro, due to proximity,” warns the deputy. At the moment, Education stops considering this center as a priority.
The councilors of CC in Arico also demand the creation of a health center in El Porís, a health provision that they value as “fundamental” for the entire coastal area of the municipality.
