The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Insular Water Council, has signed a collaboration agreement with the company Aqualia for the installation of a nanofiltration pilot plant at the El Reventón Desalination Station, in Icod de los Vinos, with the aim of to solve a problem regarding the flow of the Hoya del Cedro gallery, which exceeds 800 pipes per hour, with an innovative system that allows improving the quality of the illuminated water, which at present, and due to its high concentration of aluminum, does not reach to the necessary standards.
“In El Reventón there is a brackish water desalination system installed from the gallery, in a flow that comes from the Hoya del Cedro gallery, however its function is limited by a high concentration of minerals, so the Island Council has come to establish this agreement with Aqualia to install a nanofiltration pilot plant on the land available at the El Reventón EDAS for the desalination of groundwater in the Northwest Regional System of Tenerife and thus obtain the best possible water quality “, pointed out the island councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight Against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina.
Along these lines, he has indicated that they will test “new alternatives to convert almost unusable water into usable water, which will result in an optimized urban and agricultural supply, as is already the case in others such as the Altos de Icod, Cruz de Tarifes and Aripe , all of which are in service and operating satisfactorily”.
