SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 7. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Parliament of the Canary Islands celebrates this week its first plenary session with one hundred percent capacity since the state of alarm was decreed in Spain in March 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the session scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, the 70 deputies of the regional Chamber will occupy their seats in the plenary hall, after the island of Tenerife has passed level 3 with level 1 measures.
The President of the Parliament, Gustavo Matos, explains in a note that the application of level 1 measures implies the obligation to attend the session in person, in such a way that the Europa room, enabled until now with functions of a plenary hall for increase the physical presence in the Chamber during plenary sessions, will not provide this service while the situation continues.
“Thus, the possibility of telematic presence, intervention and voting declines, a formula enabled in 2020 thanks to the regulatory adaptation and a technological boost carried out in record time,” says the president.
Gustavo Matos recalls that the Parliament of the Canary Islands has not closed its doors for a single day since the start of the pandemic thanks to this enormous technological effort that has placed it at the forefront of the parliaments and assemblies of Spain.
