SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 7. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Canary Islands were at the head of Spain last year in demands for marital dissolution with 247.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to data from the Statistics Service and published this Monday by the General Council of the Judiciary.

After the islands are the Valencian Community, with 238.8 demands; Balearic Islands, with 229.7; Murcia, 225.4; Andalusia, 218.8; Cantabria, 213.7 and Catalonia, with 208.3.

All these autonomous communities exceeded the national average, which stood at 205.7 demands for dissolution per 100,000 inhabitants.

On the contrary, the territories where a lower number of lawsuits were filed were Castilla y León, with 162.3; Basque Country, with 170.1 and Comunidad Foral de Navarra, with 180.8.

In total, the demands for marital dissolution filed in 2021 in Spain totaled 97,499, a figure that represents a joint increase of 2.5% compared to the previous year.

Considering the different types of demand, last year there were fewer annulments and separation demands (both consensual and non-consensual), while divorce demands increased.

The 57,168 consensual divorce applications filed in 2021 were 4% more than those of 2020; the 36,337 contentious divorce applications increased by 0.7 percent; the 2,687 of consensual separation experienced a decrease of 0.4 percent and the 1,187 of contentious separation, a decrease of 3.9 percent.

During the same period, 70 nullity lawsuits were filed, compared to 78 in 2020.

In addition, in 2021, 12,955 requests to modify consensual matrimonial measures were filed, 14.4% more than the previous year, and 32,162 requests to modify non-consensual matrimonial measures were filed, 7% more than in 2020.

With regard to the demands for modification of custody measures and maintenance of non-marital children, 24,032 consensual were presented, 13.2% more than in 2020 and 26,548 non-consensual, 5.4% more than in the year previous.

FOURTH TRIMESTER

Likewise, between October and December 2021, the number of lawsuits for marital dissolution, annulments, separations and divorces, fell by 12.6% compared to the same quarter of 2020. In that period, a total of 25,183 were filed.

In the fourth quarter of last year, all types of marriage dissolution claims showed year-on-year declines.

The 14,416 consensual divorce applications were 14.6% less than those filed in the same quarter of 2020. The 9,777 non-consensual divorce applications represented 8.9% less.

Regarding the separation demands, the consensual ones, of which 666 were presented, decreased by 17.6 percent, and the 313 non-consensual ones did so by 13.3 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.

The number of nullity lawsuits, 11, decreased by 50% compared to those filed in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The demands for the modification of consensual measures, of which 3,154 were filed during the fourth quarter of 2021, have decreased by 12.7 percent and the demands for the modification of non-consensual measures, which totaled 8,304, have decreased by 7.3 percent. percent compared to the same quarter of 2020.

Modifications of consensual guardianship, custody and maintenance measures for non-marital children, 5,686, have had a year-on-year decrease of 18.2 percent, while non-consensual ones, 6,958, have shown a decrease of 7.6 percent.
