The Municipality of Los Realejos request the company Endesa the removal of aerial wiring that affects the Rambla de Castro Protected Landscape, an emblematic corner of the royal coast that occupies an area of almost 46 hectares. This space houses one of the best palm groves on the island, a historic mansion, the old San Fernando fort and the ruins of the Gordejuela water elevator, which housed the first steam engine on the Island.

This request has already been forwarded to Endesa and, according to the local government (PP), “the electrical distributor’s engineering service has already informed the Planning Department that it is studying alternatives.” The first deputy mayor of Los Realejos, Adolf GonzalezRemember that “since the City Council of Los Realejos and the Urban Planning Department We have taken up the relevant procedures again to insist on our desire to achieve the removal of the aerial wiring that runs over the natural area of Rambla de Castro, submitting a new petition.

The confirmation that the company is already considering alternatives is, in González’s opinion, “important news for our municipality, since we are referring to an old demand from citizens and from this local government in order to reduce the environmental impact in this precious area and the effects that this type of infrastructure and wiring have on the birdlife, as well as on the general aesthetics of one of the main attractions of The Realejos».

“This is an old citizen demand and this government to reduce the environmental impact”

The mayor of Urbanism, Laura Lima (PP), recalls that “over the last few years, the electricity distributor has been able to develop different projects that have made it possible to eliminate power lines and bury many meters of wiring, in turn eliminating dozens of turrets in different parts of the municipality. A line of work for which we will continue betting in order to achieve a town with greater environmental cleanliness and an image more in keeping with the 21st century».

Rambla de Castro It is a landscape protected by Law 12/1994 of Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands, now merged with the Law of Planning of the Territory of the Canary Islands through Decree 1/2000.
