The construction works of the access roundabout to Chayofa, on the general road TF-28 in Arona, have begun. The infrastructure will eliminate one of the traditional black spots for traffic and pedestrians in the Aronero municipality, fulfilling a historical requirement of the neighbors. At the beginning of the work were the first vice president of the Council of Tenerife and responsible for Highways, Enrique Arriaga, and the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena. In the last two months, the clearing works have been carried out, in addition to other tasks. More than 19,000 vehicles use this road every day and at the roundabout there have been 17 accidents in the last 5 years, some very serious.

The access roundabout to the Chayofa center has been one of the most requested infrastructures in recent years in Arona, as it constitutes a black spot for pedestrians and vehicles, since, at present, it is necessary to go to the nearest population center , La Camella, to make a U-turn. After carrying out the corresponding expropriations, the works began two months ago with the tasks of clearing and other tasks.

“The 19,000 vehicles that use this road every day will have more security”

Enrique Arriaga – Vice President of the Cabildo

The works are carried out the Roads area of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which has invested half a million euros in the action. At present, around 2,000 people reside in Chayofa, in a nucleus in which there are various facilities and services, all of this on the side of one of the main highways, the TF-28, the busiest on the island. , and despite the heavy traffic, the road does not have an infrastructure of these characteristics.

This has been the main reason why the area has become a black spot within the municipality, because, until now, it was necessary to reach the next population center, La Camella, to make a U-turn. All this has generated years of intense demands from the neighbors and the express request of the municipal government since 2015.

During the visit, in addition to the first vice president and the mayor, the insular director of Highways, Tomás Félix García Pérez, as well as the councilors of the Works, Ruth Lorenzo, and Security, Francisco Marichal, areas were present. The island councilor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, pointed out that the roundabout “will offer more safety to the 19,000 vehicles that use this road every day, at a point where 17 accidents have been recorded in the last 5 years, some very serious.” “From the Cabildo we work to eliminate the black spots of the island roads, in this case we have invested more than 418,000 euros,” clarified the island vice president.

“The works will improve the mobility of one of the roads with the most traffic on the Island”

José Julian Mena – Mayor of Arona

Mena, satisfied

For his part, the mayor of Arona underlined “the good predisposition of this insular area, which has responded to what was a demand from the residents and which the City Council endorsed, at least since 2015, due both to the need to guarantee the safety of pedestrians and drivers, as well as improving the mobility of what is one of the roads with the highest intensity of traffic on the Island and which, at present, requires reaching La Camella to make a change of direction. “This is good news for all the neighbors,” added Mena.
