SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The secretary general and senator of the Canary Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo, has criticized this Tuesday the “publicity and propaganda” campaign initiated by the central government around the crisis in Afghanistan while forgetting the migration route from the Canary Islands, with 428 deaths so far this year and 2,700 unaccompanied minors in foster care.

In a press conference in which he was accompanied by the regional deputy Cristina Valido, he commented that his party will not be an “accomplice” of the “silence” of the central and regional governments with what is happening in the archipelago.

Clavijo has specified that the nationalist formation is not against the response that the State has given to the situation in Afghanistan or with the minors in Ceuta but he sees an “absolute hypocrisy” that “they put their hands to their heads” when the Canary Islands continue “waiting for answers and solutions”.

Along these lines, he has criticized that Pedro Sánchez has spent almost ten days on vacation in Lanzarote “and has not interrupted them” when in waters near the islands, almost 100 migrants have died in the last days who had left Africa.

He has pointed out that “the Canary Islands cannot assume alone” all the migratory pressure because “neither the Canarian people, nor the minors nor the people who get on a cayuco deserve it”, for which he has demanded that the State articulate a solidarity distribution .

“We are not going to shut up,” he pointed out, criticizing the “double standards” of the central government with the Afghan crisis and the African migration route.

Valido, for his part, has warned that the scenes of previous years are beginning to “repeat” and are “getting worse”, due to the climate crisis, hunger or the wars that exist in different African countries and that force people to migrate.

He has coincided with Clavijo in questioning the “cynicism and opportunism” of the central government for hosting Afghan refugees when the Canary Islands are experiencing a “humanitarian drama” that will soon make it a “protagonist” again for violating human rights.

In addition, he has criticized the position of the counselor for Social Rights, Noemí Santana, who “opens the doors” to Afghan women and girls when she complains to the State about the lack of help to care for migrant minors. “It is a double message that we do not understand,” he indicated.

Valido has insisted that the ‘macrocamps’ “are not the solution” and the Canary Islands have “difficulties” to integrate migrants and create jobs, and given the attitude of the central Executive with Afghanistan, he stressed that the archipelago is “abandoned to its luck”.

He lamented the “lack of leadership” of the Canarian Government for placing the migration crisis “on the agenda” and recalled how various measures approved by the Canarian Parliament, such as the creation of a migration commission and a comprehensive reception plan, have not been complied with. .

CANARY WATERS

Clavijo has taken advantage of his appearance before the media to warn that they will not allow the territorial waters of the Canary Islands to enter into any negotiations between Spain and Morocco.

He has shown his concern for the “silence” of the Spanish and Canary Islands governments and warned that they will not be “accomplices” in possible diplomatic agreements.

“We express our firm opposition to this only being debated or discussed, the Canarian territorial waters belong to the Canarian people and we are not going to allow the ownership or the opportunity to be questioned,” he added.
