Puerto de la Cruz recovers all the acts of its traditional Holy Week

The Porto City Hall hosted this Tuesday, March 1, 2022 the presentation of the program of events of the Holy Week of the city that, after two years marked by the pandemic, returns with all the acts. The proclamation, scheduled for March 25, will mark the beginning of a program that, “pending official confirmation”, will return to recover the processions through the streets.

The Association of Brotherhoods, with the collaboration of the City Council of the tourist city, have planned some events that will live their key days in the week that runs from April 8 to 17, “with all the tours of the images that are venerated in the Porto temples”. for the mayor, Marco Gonzalez (PSOE)«this year returns the unique opportunity to enjoy the processions through the streets of the city that are also another tourist and cultural attraction».

The proclamation, entitled “A triple vision: the Brotherhoods”will be in charge of Inma Donate, TV presenter; the mayor Robert Medina and the priest Louis Rodriguezparish priest of the Peña de Francia, who will share a triple point of view on the importance of this celebration and which will also be accompanied by the School of Music.

“We want to offer another look that encompasses all the sectors that are not only benefited by the return of this celebration as we knew it, but also what it means for the life of the city since it is an undoubted attraction that adds to those who are already home to our tourist destination,” said Councilor Robert Medina.

On Sunday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. the Rock of Francethe celebration is organized in honor of Saint John the Evangelistpatron saint of the brotherhoods of Porto and the traditional delivery of awards, by the Association of Fraternities and Brotherhoodswith the procession to finish of the image of Saint John the Evangelist around the church square. “For the Brotherhoods this is a very important year because we want to resume this public cult that brings the celebration closer to the residents of our city and thus give it the prominence that one of the most important Holy Weeks in the Canary Islands deserves, also for the quality of their carvings”, added the president of the Association of Brotherhoods of Porto Richard Richterwhich also valued the work carried out jointly by the Brotherhoods with the City Council, for the creation of the poster announcing Holy Week in Porto.

As outstanding events we must also highlight Saturday, April 2, at 8:00 p.m., the awaited Via Crucis of the Brotherhoodsthat departing and arriving at Calvary Chapel, runs through a wide sector of the Porto area adorned in purple by which the streets of the city are distinguished this week. The programming for this Holy Week will be available in the coming days at the official website.

“Holy Week, how could it be otherwise, will also have our Puerto de la Cruz Music Band that year after year claims its essential role in the celebration of this public cult that we admire so much”, according to the councilor of artistic heritage, Albert Castile.
