The Council of Tenerife intensifies its promotional activities in United States with the aim of promoting the arrival of American travelers to the Island once the launch direct flight between New York and Tenerife Sur with which the airline United Airlines will begin operating from June. Among other measures, Turismo de Tenerife completes the bidding process for a representative office in the United States, which will contemplate actions aimed directly at the consumer.
Parallel, Turismo de Tenerife will launch a major joint promotional action with the company United Airlinesthrough its own promotion channels and supports, but also external ones, as well as its extensive database and professional contacts with representatives of the tourism sector in that country.
Among the actions, the development of a training campaign on the destination that will begin to be taught to North American travel agents from this month in webinar format stands out. In the training, which will be given by the specialized media in the tourism industry Travel Weekly, attendees will be informed of the main attractions of Tenerife as a holiday destination, from its average annual temperature of 22 degrees throughout the year to the variety of its nature and landscapes or its gastronomy and heritage. The promotional actions planned for the coming months join others that have been unfolding. This is the case of Tenerife Tourism’s attendance at the annual conference of tour operators in the United States, held last December in San Diego (California) and in which the island came into contact with the North American tourism industry.
The Cabildo will also train the travel agents of the North American country to attract visitors
The island’s Director of Tourism of the Cabildo, Laura Castro, explains that the objective of these initiatives is “to make the most of this circumstance to achieve, not only recover the number of North American travelers who arrived on the Island in 2019, some 26,500, but also exceed them” . “Ultimately, gradually position ourselves in that market as a benchmark destination,” she added.
Castro recalls that the start-up of the United Airlines flight from June, with its three direct weekly frequencies between Newark Libertad International Airport, in New York, and Tenerife South, will mean an initial number of 13,400 seats. “This opens up excellent expectations for us both in the United States and in Canada for attracting tourists from those origins,” explained Laura Castro.
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, points out that “we began an arduous promotion work in this market, which we hope to consolidate”. It adds that according to the data analyzed by the Tenerife Tourism Research Department, the progression during 2021 “demonstrates a growing positive evolution in the arrival of these travelers to the island, going from just under 200 in January (in full pandemic), to the almost 1,400 in December, which are half of those who had arrived in the same month of 2019 ». “It is a fact that confirms the interest of these travelers in the Island, which now, thanks to the new connection and all the planned promotional actions, we are sure will increase”.
