The departments of Environment and Works and Services of the Tacoronte City Council have already completed the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to ensure that the Municipal Library is self-sufficient in electricity thanks to the sun. This is the first action of a broader project that aims to “complete by 2030 the provision of solar panels in all public buildings to achieve energy sovereignty of these public infrastructures,” as announced by the local government (NC-PSOE-SSP).
«In the Municipal Library, in addition to looking for an alternative source of energy, it has also had to legalize its electrical installation, since we have learned that the property had a monumental defect, since it did not have the legalization of its electrical installation », regrets the mayor, José Daniel Díaz (NC).
During a visit to the facilities, accompanied by the Councilor for the Environment, Carmela Díaz Vilela, and the head of Works and Services, Antonio Gil Goya, Díaz explained that “an engineering study had to be commissioned to legalize said facility and be able to legally connect it to the grid, so the situation has also been taken advantage of to start the plan to provide photovoltaic energy for all public facilities.
The mayor explained that “this first provision of plates, which have been placed on the roof of the building, is made up of a power of 13 KW, with which the usual consumption of the installation will be covered throughout the day.” The head of Environment added that “within the Covenant of Mayors we have committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 40% in 2030 and achieving self-sufficiency in all public buildings in these 8 years.”
The Consistory currently has five projects prepared for the public buildings with the highest consumption of electricity: the Town Hall and the annex building, the Municipal Market and three public schools.
