SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 28 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The island of Tenerife, the main market for Russian tourism in the Canary Islands –more than 80% of the market share before the pandemic–, has no Russian tourists stranded on the island via tourist package after the closure of the airspace by Spain decreed this past weekend.

This was stated this Monday by the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, who points out that there are also no Ukrainian tourists since air operations with the country were closed in January and were scheduled to resume in April.

In a statement released by the Cabildo, it highlights that they are in permanent contact with the consular corps of both countries and tour operators from both markets and for now there is no “request for support or help”.

Pérez has commented that Russian tourism had not yet recovered on the island since the ‘Sputnik’ vaccine was not recognized by the European Union and there were restrictions on non-EU tourists and the weekly flight on Saturdays was intended for people with second homes. or for commercial flights, with access allowed with a negative pcr.

He also said that the Polish tour operator Itaka has offered to repatriate any Ukrainian citizen who cannot do so by their own means to Warsaw.
