The council this year invests 2.1 million euros in direct aid to the livestock sector of the Island. The insular councilor for the primary sector, Javier Parrilla, explains that the subsidies will go towards feeding cattle, artisanal dairies, health defense associations or the support of traditional native breeds. They will be distributed in six different lines.

Parrilla assures that the plan has been agreed with the representatives of the sector. Remember the departure of almost 7.4 million for livestock and fisheries, and highlights the 3.1 million allocated to the promotion of livestock. “A figure that triples that of 2016,” he asserts.

The first aid to be announced will have 1,355,000 euros and will be used to defray part of the expenses derived from the feeding of sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, rabbits and poultry. The Cabildo expects to receive more than 300 applications. The reduction of livestock censuses will stop and that will help boost employment.

Health defense associations will receive 100,000 euros to improve the sanitary quality of livestock farms and dairies handmade, another 200,000. The objective is to improve the conditions for obtaining and handling milk and favor the implementation of zoosanitary and public health measures.

300,000 euros will also be allocated to eliminate the fees in the insemination assistance and 45,000 to support traditional breeds. The Canarian Association of Drag will receive 100,000 euros to feed the cattle of coarse cows, a nominative subsidy of 824,775 euros goes to the maintenance of the Insular Slaughterhouse to guarantee quality and safety in marketing and distribution.

The high dependence on imported inputs such as feed and fodder This is a serious problem, since animal feed accounts for more than 60% of the production cost.
