SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 26 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The First Vice President of Congress and Secretary of Municipal Policy of the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE, Alfonso R. Gómez de Celis, has announced that a reception plan will be established led by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) for citizens Ukrainians leaving the country because of the war started by Russia.

This was made clear this Saturday in statements to the media in Santa Cruz de Tenerife before participating in the ‘Transformative Municipalism’ meeting organized by the PSOE of the Canary Islands, where he regretted that when it seemed that the uncertainties due to the Covid-19 were dissipating now comes this war.

“We get into another uncertainty that is also very unfortunate, which is the war in Ukraine, a war to which we socialists are totally opposed. We demand that Russia and Putin leave the country immediately and establish a peace process so that it does not affect so many people,” he said.

Here, he referred to the citizens who are suffering the effects of the Russian attack, especially children, “who will surely live with great anguish everything that is happening today in Ukraine.”

For this reason, he assured that the Socialists, led by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, “we are going to establish a reception plan.” “I believe that the fundamental thing is humanitarian aid so that we are prepared for all those who have to come fleeing this terrible war,” he pointed out.

Gómez de Celis explained in the same way that the war will also have economic consequences for Spain, fundamentally on the energy issue, although he clarified that the country is not so dependent on Russia for energy because it receives gas mainly from North Africa.

BRITO: “THE CANARY ISLANDS ARE A WELCOME PEOPLE”

Meanwhile, the mayor of Candelaria, president of the FECAM and member of the Federal Committee of the PSOE, Mari Brito, has called for peace and harmony as the basis of coexistence for all.

“Canaries are a welcoming people. We have always shown this throughout our history and we have experienced it with the migratory crises of recent years and with the people of Afghanistan a few months ago. From the Canary Islands we will always be available to work together “, he concluded.
