The local government approves the budget for the year with the rejection of the opposition

With the votes in favor of the municipal government (CC-PP) and against the opposition (PSOE, Cs and Sí Podemos), the plenary approved the budget of the Municipality of Granadilla de Abonawhich amounts to a total of 50,370,099 euros. The new accounts for this year, which experience a real growth of 8% compared to 2021will be in public exhibition period for 15 days.

Mayor, Jose Domingo Regalado, stated that, after the situation of uncertainty generated by the pandemic, it intends to be the axis of social reconstruction and announces that it will be complemented by the remaining treasury. He explained that the Consistory does not resort to any credit operation with the banking entities, with whom the municipal debt is at zero, nor does it raise taxes on the citizens of Granada. He highlighted the “social cut” of the budget, “with a great weight in the items of education and social assistance, and with a clear commitment to the environment and essential services, with growth in its items, in addition to a commitment to the revitalization of the cultural field and of the different sectors of the population.

The Councilor for Finance, Ruben Garcia Casanasflatly denied the statements made by the opposition about the salary increase of the government team and described as “false” the statement that it is intended half a million to publicity and propaganda. The actual item is 160,000 euros, and there is already a contract in force. The mayor asserted that not supporting this budget «that is, not more than 5.4 million for the most disadvantaged families and sectors of the municipality, collaboration with NGOs and a comprehensive intervention in social services, housing, the catering project home care for single and dependent people, the homelessness program, drug addiction for children and adolescents, the first plan for children, individual aid, the promotion and revitalization of culture and citizen participation, the improvement of parks and gardens and the increase in of the chapter of personnel directed to improvements of the human resources of the administration, it is the case, of a technical office according to the demand of the municipality.

For his part, Marcos González conveyed his congratulations to the team in the economic area and stressed that this budget goes up in practically all municipal items, in addition to being a “living and flexible” document to adapt to real needs. He also emphasized the increases in social matters (12% of the total); education in family conciliation programs, camps and nursery school, scholarships and improvements in educational centers; General services; local development and employment (more than half a million for training and agreements); primary sector; environment and old age. To Sports, Granadilla allocates more than 670,000 euros in subsidies to groups.

No recovery support

Jennifer Miranda, spokesperson for the PSOE, assures that the budget invests 20% and “leaves more than 60 million euros of remaining cash unused.” In application of the current legislation, three trusted personnel positions are budgeted, which motivated socialist criticism, which warns of the reduction of 200,000 euros in social emergency funds and 300,000 euros in aid for SMEs and the self-employed. “They are the worst budgets because they reduce the most important economic items,” says Adán García (Cs), the councilor assures that, “in addition to being late, they do not comply with the regulations by not nominating all budget items.” He detects that “there are important pockets of public money that do not know where they will end up.” In his opinion, “with less investment, less social assistance and without subsidies to the self-employed and companies, the municipal government prevents the economic and social recovery of Granadilla.” | DE
