Tenerife descends from this midnight to level 3 of alert for coronavirus given the improvement in its epidemiological indicators, which implies, among other measures, extending the closure of entertainment and restaurant venues until 4:00 a.m.; increase the capacity both inside and outside these spaces, which reach 75% and 100%, respectively; increase the maximum number of diners per table to 12; and allow visits in hospital centers without the supervision of center staff. This was announced this morning by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Angel Victor Torres after the meeting of the government council held in La Palma.
As the leader of the regional Executive clarified, the rest of the islands will remain at the same level of alert in which they are, at least one more week. In this way, Gran Canaria continues in 4; La Palma, Fuerteventura and El Hierro in 3; and Lanzarote and La Graciosa in 2.
According to the epidemiological report, Between February 15 and 21, 6,637 new Covid cases were detected in the Archipelago, a figure that shows an increase of 28.4% in the average number of new daily cases compared to the previous week. Thus, from a weekly average estimated at 237.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 305 tables have been registered this week on the same population count. All the islands, with the exception of Lanzarote, are at a very high risk level in this indicator.
Regarding the cumulative incidence in the last seven and 14 days among people over 65 years of age, the entire community is at very high risk, despite the fact that the first indicator has experienced a 6% decrease. The second, on the other hand, has increased by 3%.
Regarding care indicators, Health reported its favorable evolution. In fact, the average number of occupied conventional beds has fallen by 5.7% in one week. However, it stands at 10.5% and is at high risk. Gran Canaria and La Palma share this degree, while Tenerife and Fuerteventura are at medium risk. On the other hand, La Gomera and El Hierro are in low risk and Lanzarote in controlled circulation.
The number of occupied beds in intensive care areas maintains the downward trend and has decreased by 19.3% in the same period of time. The region is at medium risk. However, taking into account the situation in each territory, Gran Canaria is at a high level, Tenerife at a medium level and La Palma at a low level. The rest of the islands remain in controlled circulation.
This Thursday, the region has added 2,044 coronavirus infections and three deaths associated with its effects. The deceased, who were between 66 and 88 years old, suffered from previous illnesses and remained hospitalized. One of the deaths was recorded in Gran Canaria, another in Tenerife and another in El Hierro. The latter are pending validation by the General Directorate of Public Health.
Taking into account the new cases by islands, Tenerife has recorded 824 clinical pictures; Gran Canaria 965; Lancelot 89; Fuerteventura 106; La Palma 41; The Iron Four; and La Gomera 15.
In the last hours they have been issued 1,157 epidemiological discharges. However, in the autonomous community there are 18,196 people suffering from the disease – 1,514 more than in the previous 24 hours. It must be remembered that Public Health is carrying out an update of the positive diagnoses notified through the self-diagnosis tests, for which the Ministry of Health warned on Wednesday that this fact could increase the computation of assets, even if they are cases already closed.
