SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 22 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Insular Wine Board, in its ordinary call at the beginning of the year, has studied the aid proposals for the wine sector by the Cabildo de Tenerife and has closed the calendar of promotional actions for 2022. The meeting was attended by representatives of the appellations of origin (DO) Tacoronte-Acentejo, Valle de la Orotava, Abona, Ycoden Daute Isora, Valle de Güímar and Canary Wine.

The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, assured that the current government team has given a guarantee of stability to wine from the Island. “This government, chaired by Pedro Martín, has given a guarantee of stability to wine from Tenerife. The call for the Wine Table is already common, something that we resumed in 2019 after five years of blockade by the previous CC government. We have all the wine from Tenerife, with its six denominations of origin and we are committed to quality wine”, said.

According to Javier Parrilla, the aid proposal for the wine sector will be divided fundamentally into two lines. The first will support the traceability of the harvest through the regulatory councils. The objective is to promote the activity of these agents “who operate in the achievement of certified quality wine production on the island”, especially in the harvest and vinification phases, “supporting supervision in the self-control and traceability of productions” .

According to the minister, “this facilitates compliance with the legislation applicable to grape and wine producers in Tenerife, and improves assistance and work systems for producers in the harvest and vinification phases, which this is when viticulture requires the most help,” added Parrilla.

The second line of subsidy will be aimed at sustaining the territory and landscape of the vineyard, as well as the economic support of wine companies, providing them with economic funds to mitigate the effects of cost overruns in the production chain and the challenges to faced due to climate change and foreign competition.

“From the first moment I have taken the Insular Wine Table as a body for the active participation of the sector and the island’s quality wine,” Parrilla said. In this sense, the councilor advanced that they will allocate two direct subsidies, for a global amount of 170,000 euros, to maintain and guarantee the quality of the PDOs and to support those wineries that have an associated territory, in order to contribute to their maintenance.

The Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries area has also set aside an item of 456,156 euros for the recovery of agri-food products, “and this year we will once again have a wine tunnel at the Madrid Fusión The Wine Edition fair, a differentiated space in first line”, concluded the counselor.
