SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 22 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The senator and deputy spokesperson for the Popular Group, Asier Antona, warned this Tuesday that the PP “is bleeding” as a result of the “bleeding” opened by the schism between the president, Pablo Casado, and the president of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and understands that the only solution is through an extraordinary congress and that it be convened “as soon as possible”.
In statements to Europa Press, he points out that he sees the crisis “with sorrow” but at the same time maintains that the current situation “cannot remain in time” because if the popular ones are not able to “stop the bleeding” that means a “bankruptcy” internally and also externally because militants, sympathizers and voters have been “disappointed”.
Along these lines, he has insisted that “the only solution” is through an extraordinary congress that allows “strengthening unity, once again hoping” and turning the PP into the “alternative” to the current Government of Spain.
In addition, it must be convened without Pablo Casado, who has to “be generous” and listen to what comes “from all corners of Spain.” “There is no other remedy,” he has indicated.
Regarding the possible candidates to succeed Casado, he has no preferences, although he “would like” there to be “unity, enthusiasm and clear leadership.”
In his opinion, “we all have to push, be generous and know what the people are asking for, we cannot be like this because we would just bleed to death and that is killing the PP”.
Regarding the judicial investigation opened by the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the contract with the brother of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, he has said that it is necessary to “respect the times” but makes it clear that the management of the case from the internal point of view “has not been carried out in the best way possible”.
For Antona, the ‘Ayuso case’ “is the straw that breaks the camel’s back” because there are already “dragging mistakes” in the strategy, also stressing that with respect to the secretary general, Teodoro García Egea, a possible resignation “is late”.
