SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 22 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has supported the implementation of 1,432 individualized accompaniment services for people from the LGBT+ group on the island developed by the Diverse Association, a resource that addresses their reality and their different problems, from job placement, administrative transit or social accompaniment for their empowerment.

This Tuesday, the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, together with the president of Diversas, Sergio Siverio, presented the projects ‘Social Asterisk’ and ‘Psychological Asterisk’, in which, in addition to accompaniment, they were also carried out in the last semester From 2021 a total of 239 attentions focused on addressing the gender identity of trans people, the accompaniment of families during the process of sexuation as well as support in different mental health pathologies such as anxiety or depression, among others.

Nauzet Gugliotta also took the opportunity to announce the continuity of these direct care resources during 2022.

The CEO of Diversity recalled that “this service has provided more than 1,400 services in 2021 and has almost 200 users who previously did not receive any service and who now have a point of reference to which they can go”, thanks to a Cabildo grant of 40,000 euros.

“This Cabildo is concerned about vulnerable people, regardless of their personal conditions; we want to serve them within the framework of our powers, considering their personal conditions, without distinction, and always relying on the entities that carry out their work directly with them” Gugliotta noted.

In his opinion, “the fact of being an LGTBI person still today causes violence, discrimination and suffering, not only for individuals but also for their families, violence that also has social and psychological consequences that condition the life and happiness of people”.

In addition, he added that “public administrations have the obligation to ensure the rights of people.”

For his part, Sergio Siverio, president of Diversas, detailed the projects of his entity and valued the Asterisk Network as a coordinated work project with more than a dozen adhered town councils and with the determined impulse of the Cabildo de Tenerife.

TOWN HALLS OF ALL COLORS

“In this network there are city councils of all political colors, because beyond a certain acronym they are red, blue, orange or purple, what they have as a flag is the rights of the LGBTI community. And that coordinated work from the political side, but especially and the counselor knows it well from the technical work that is the one that comes from the institutions directly to the street and we have also managed to refer users from all those municipalities to the specialized care services that we have in Diversas”, he commented Siverio.

One of the main objectives within the action carried out by the Diverse Association is to improve the quality of life of Lgtbiq+ people, hence a psychological support project is carried out to improve the mental health of the people who are part of this group and their families, who present, according to the entity, “great social vulnerability”.

The population that has been served by the different resources and who will continue to use this resource come from different parts of Tenerife, since their scope of action is insular.

Siverio explained that even the Diversas resources “arrive users from the north of Tenerife but, increasingly, people from practically all the municipalities of the island of Tenerife, which shows that there is a clear need and that this need needs to be covered with continuity projects consolidated over time”.

They have also been surprised from this entity “by the increase in people from the metropolitan area, which has almost forced to extend the scope of action of the project but also of the entity”.

Siverio has made it clear that LGBTI people are not “a flag that is raised on a specific day or on specific days of the calendar.”

“We are not a medal to be hung when great social, political or any other achievements are achieved. This is a commitment by the island corporation for the rights of the LGBTI community, for giving continuity to the project, which is not only manifested this year but I am convinced that it will continue much further in the year 2023 even”, he thanked.
