The Social Action area directed by Rosario González In January, the Con-Sentido project began, a new family and social mediation program aimed at people with disabilities and their families, which comes with the aim of dealing with the consequences of the pandemic.
This initiative is developed by the five districts in the home of those affected or outside of it, according to the needs of each case. Together with the Factoría Social Association, the Con-Sentido project has a technical team made up of a psychologist and a worker specialized in individual and family care for people with disabilities.
The program develops active listening strategies and new forms of communication to generate a more constructive link in intra-family, social and community relationships. “In short, it is about preventing the chronification of the conflicts generated by the pandemic and having tools that avoid the exhaustion and fatigue of families caring for people with disabilities,” explains the Councilor for Social Action, the nationalist Rosario González.
The name of the project Con-Sentido is due to the fact that both parties, both people with disabilities and their family caregivers, accept the mediation that is offered to them voluntarily and with consent. It also refers to the physiological process that involves the reception of stimuli that are produced through sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell.
“The time they spent in confinement and the subsequent adaptation to the new normality has meant a great change, almost always with negative consequences.” “All this, together with the closure of day and residential centers, generated complicated situations in this group of special vulnerability”, explains Rosario González, in her commitment to support people with disabilities and their families.
