The vandalism in the unfinished Parque de Las Mesas has meant a higher cost in the budget of 861,813 euros to resume some works that, if all goes well, in six months will return to the chicharreros the only recreational area that the municipality has in the limits of its urban environment.

Yesterday, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, visited the area where the actions have begun to finalize the conditioning of this space, which, due to different administrative and management problems, was left half finished after investing more than four million euros.

Accompanied by the mayor of Infrastructures of Santa Cruz, Dámaso Arteaga, the president lamented the lack of civility that has hit the park, from which the electrical wiring, the lights have been removed or the cafeteria space and the bathrooms have been vandalized with graffiti .

Precisely, to prevent acts like these from being repeated, in addition to calling for civility, the Santa Cruz City Council is studying granting a concession for the operation of the cafeteria and the maintenance of the bathrooms, something that the City Council believes will help discourage any type of vandalism.

The recovery project involves conditioning accesses, securing the different heights with low walls and fences, or paving the two car parks that it has.

Martín asked citizens for commitment and collaboration to prevent the space from being vandalized again. “This whole space is going to transform in a very short time and I think that once we discover the wonder we have here, together we will help take care of it,” he said.

Arteaga, for his part, thanked the Cabildo for its investment and valued the start of some “long-awaited” work for the municipality. “It is very positive that the work will begin and that in a few months this work will be definitively handed over to the City Council”, he pointed out.

The mayor added that from the City Council “we will continue with a project to renaturalize this space.” As he explained, it will be charged to Next Generation funds for about 4 million.
