The Santa Cruz City Council was designated in 2021 as a Critical Operator of Essential Services by the National Center for Critical Infrastructure. Given the size of the Municipal Administration and the number of people who work in it, it becomes a point that, if its computer security is attacked, could seriously jeopardize the organization of the city and, therefore, of the Island.
With the aim of reinforcing this section, the Consistory will invest more than 400,000 euros in cybersecurity this year. As detailed yesterday by the Councilor for Organization of the City Council, Alfonso Cabello, the total investment planned for 2022 in this matter is 413,000 euros, where the supply of a secure messaging system for the Local Police, supply of EDR licenses for user stations, whose objective is to block and respond to possible computer attacks, as well as the supply of a SIEM, a system that allows preventive analysis of possible attacks to which it may be exposed.
The also mayor delegate of the Development Society, in addition, advanced that the capital has presented a cybersecurity project, amounting to 225,383.75 euros, in the last call for Subsidies, for the digital transformation and modernization of local entities, to equip yourself with the necessary tools to start up your Security Operations Center.
Cabello offered this data in the presentation of the ninth edition of the Hackron cybersecurity congress, which will bring together the main experts in the world of ICT security in Santa Cruz in a mixed format between technical workshops, presentations, and challenges of the so-called ethical hacking, which will take place next Friday, February 25, at the Casa de la Juventud.
Tickets for face-to-face workshops can be purchased through the congress website www.hackron.com, while the streaming mode will be free for all attendees a few hours before the start of the event.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted the importance of the meeting, “which places our city at the point of reference for cybersecurity just at a time when this City Council is undergoing a process of technological transformation”.
The organizer, Igor Lukic, thanked the involvement of Santa Cruz and the Cabildo, “which has made Hackron a great ambassador for Tenerife and Santa Cruz”.
The congress organizes a competition for future ethical hackers. One of the challenges will be to try to illuminate the Adán Martín auditorium, hacking the image momentarily and showing QR codes for the entire city to view the congress through YouTube.
The press conference ended with the intervention of a magician who, with a sleight of hand, explained the bases of cybercriminality, which are none other than the distraction of the victim to get him to do what he does not want. Yesterday, he managed to get Bermúdez to call Cabello, without the former wanting to.
