The work of Los Patos advances with the aim of finishing this summer

The construction work of the new staircase and the path that will give access to Los Patos beach, in La Orotava, is progressing with the forecast that it can be opened to the public next summer, when they are nine years old. Construction management is optimistic Regarding the execution times and the works continue without major problems since the end of 2021. The objective is to finish in time for the summer season and avoid the tenth summer in a row without Los Patos beach.

under the coordination of Gesplan, the Arcan construction company is carrying out the work to prepare the path that will reach the sand, with the help of small machinery and a small number of workers, due to the danger and instability of the terrain. The action has a cost of 609,176 euros.

The reconstruction of the staircase has become noticeably more expensive since 2014. It was initially commissioned for 106,000 euros. Those works began with the demolition of the old staircase and the installation of scaffolding, but a collapse in an unstable wall forced the action to be paralyzed a few months after its start to redefine the entire project and almost quintuple its cost. Procedures that took five years. The work was awarded for the second time at the end of April 2019 to the Grupo Urvios company, but its start was delayed for almost six months due to the lack of agreement with the owners of the farms. In October 2019 it was restarted, budgeted at around 500,000 euros, but in 2020 it was paralyzed again. It was reactivated in 2021, but with a budget of 109,000 euros more.

The Councilor for Management of the Natural Environment and Safety of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Isabel García, has visited the works this week together with the councilors Yurena Luis and Narciso Pérez. This action has a contribution of 300,000 euros from the Cabildo, through the El Rincón Consortium.

Isabel García explained during the visit that “this work, already underway, seems to definitively solve a problem that can be considered historical in the municipality, mainly due to the interest of this splendid black sand beach.” The Minister took advantage of the visit to collect some proposals on improving accessibility and the state of the trails in this area of La Orotava “for possible future actions.”

The insular head of Security and the Environment recalls that “several administrative reasons have delayed this project in the past, but as of May 2021, the El Rincón Consortium once again requested the Cabildo to grant this aid, which was has paid with a term of one year for the execution of the works”, which for the moment are advancing without further delays.
