The island spokesperson for the Sí Podemos Canarias group in the Cabildo de Tenerife, María José Belda, criticizes the fact that the island government team has admitted the irregular situation “of the sewage discharges that are currently being carried out through the submarine outfall located in the puddle of La Araña, in the municipality of Los Silos». Belda declares that “in the Plenary Committee on Sustainability, Roads, Innovation and Culture, we have asked the island government if these discharges that are being carried out comply with current legislation, and the councilor responsible for the area has stated that he is working for it, so that at the moment we have some illegal discharges in Los Silos with the knowledge and protection of the Government group ».

Belda recalls that “the government group of the Los Silos City Council was being pressured for dumping the waters of their municipality into the sea without purifying, since this could lead to the imposition of fines for this reason. Now, in addition to discharging what was already supposed to be illegal, wastewater from Garachico is being incorporated to be discharged by the aforementioned outfall, after the recent signing of the agreement. The insular spokesperson adds that “in the face of all this, we also have no evidence that said outfall has been repaired, since it was built several decades ago and had breakages and great deterioration.”
