SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 17 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The General Directorate of Relations with the Administration of Justice of the Government of the Canary Islands has put into operation the SVIsual video interpretation system in Spanish sign language, which ensures that people with hearing disabilities have the same access to information as the rest of the citizenry .

This tool has been operational for use since last Tuesday in six guard courts that have specific offices: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Arona, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde and San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The SVIsual system allows communication between people with hearing disabilities and listeners in real time, through a video interpreter who performs the interpretation tasks requested by each user.

Thus, fluid communication is established between both parties, thanks to a technological platform that functions as a call center, capable of simultaneously integrating audio and video, which will allow people with this disability to be understood by the worker and vice versa.

For these purposes, the workstation provided for this purpose has a microphone, camera, loudspeaker and double screen, so that one of them can be used for regular work use and the other to show the video tool that will enable communication. , reports the Ministry of Justice in a note.

The system is accessible through the web address https://justiciaencanarias.svisual.orgwhich loads a graphic environment and incorporates a video component (to facilitate viewing between the disabled person and the video interpreter agent) and a chat component, which facilitates written communication.

With the implementation of the SVIsual system, the Ministry of Public Administrations, Justice and Security begins to comply with Law 1/2000, of January 7, on Civil Procedure, which indicates that in the processes in which people with disabilities, the necessary adaptations and adjustments will be made to guarantee their participation in equal conditions.

PROGRESSIVE INCORPORATION IN MORE COURTS

This video interpretation system will be gradually incorporated into the rest of the courts on the islands to the extent that their facilities allow it.

Specifically, the law states that the person with disabilities will be provided with the necessary assistance or support so that they can make themselves understood, which will include interpretation in legally recognized sign languages, and the means of support for the oral communication of people with disabilities. hearing and visual impairment.

This measure was implemented with the physical presence of sign interpreters, despite the difficulties that often exist in having them due to their scarcity.
