The sixth wave is diluted and with it the hospital pressure. Total hospitalizations in the Islands have decreased by 25% since the beginning of February, which has allowed hospitals to gradually recover some normality in attendance. The drop has been similar in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, although it has been the island of the western province that has reduced its healthcare pressure the most (24% compared to 22%).

Total, 540 people are occupying a bed in hospitals in the Canary Islands due to the coronavirus. Of these, 62 are in critical condition. In Tenerife, the number varied slightly compared to the previous day, so there are 258 patients on the ward (3 more than the previous day) and 29 in the ICU. With regard to Gran Canaria, the number of hospitalized patients amounts to 211 on the ward and 32 in the ICU. Fuerteventura is the non-capital island with the most hospitalizations, hosting a total of five patients. La Palma follows with three (two more than the previous day) and Lanzarote with one. Neither El Hierro nor La Gomera have patients admitted for this cause in their hospitals.

The deceased during this week are 40% less than in January

The reduction in the hospitalization curve is accompanied by a reduction in weekly deaths. The canaries who died this week due to covid have been reduced by 40% compared to the end of Januaryand yet, the number of deaths recorded this month is already higher than in any period of 2021 and 2020. In 16 days, 120 deaths have been recorded in the Islands, which makes February the second month of the pandemic with the most deaths recorded from this cause. In the last few hours, the deaths of eight people have been reported, three in Tenerife, another three in Gran Canaria, one in Fuerteventura and one in El Hierro, aged between 63 and 94 years. All had previous pathologies and were hospitalized.

Regarding the contagion curve, the trend continues to be downward or stabilizing. Throughout the Canary Islands, the number of cases this week has decreased by 9.2% compared to the previous 7 days. The Archipelago has added 1,228 cases, which means 6,919 this week. Gran Canaria is the island that is experiencing the greatest decline in cases. After adding 451 new positives, the number of weekly diagnoses is reduced to 2,741, 15% lower than in the previous seven days. Tenerife, meanwhile, tends to a certain stabilization. The island has reported 492 new cases, for which there are 2,882 in the week, 1.4% higher than the previous week.

The trend is also stable in Fuerteventura, which has added 129 cases, and in Lanzarote, which has added 129. Meanwhile, it is reduced in La Palma (55 new positives), El Hierro (4) and La Gomera (5).
