LA LAGUNA (TENERIFE), Feb. 14 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The City Council of La Laguna and the Government Subdelegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have agreed this Monday to recover the nightlife control operation launched in October to guarantee security in the municipality, especially in the area of the ‘Cuadrilátero ‘.

The measure comes as a result of the coordination meeting called by the Councilor for Citizen Security of the City Council of La Laguna, Alejandro Marrero, to redouble the efforts of all administrations to improve nightlife control devices in La Laguna, especially on weekends, given the increase in fights.

In the meeting, held electronically, Alejandro Marrero himself and the sub-delegate of the Government in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Javier Plata, as well as the commanders of the Canarian Police and the National Police, among others, took part.

After its completion, the mayor expressed his gratitude for the collaboration provided to be able to resume the operation that was applied in the month of October and that implies the participation of all the Security Forces and Bodies.

This supposes an increase in troops and carrying out access controls in the ‘Quadrilateral’ from four points, in which the entrance will be filtered to prevent minors from passing through and the introduction of alcoholic beverages and bottles, as well as any element that may carry danger.

Alejandro Marrero stated that this deployment “worked very well” on the previous occasion “and made it possible to correct situations such as those experienced in a very short space of time.”

Although the Local Police and the National Police reinforced their resources during the past weekend because “a small rebound was expected due to the completion of the exams”, he regretted that this effort “was not enough”, for what has been agreed reimplant the device starting this Thursday and for at least two weeks.

MORE INSPECTIONS IN NIGHT-TIME ESTABLISHMENTS

“We cannot allow altercations such as those suffered in the early hours of Sunday to occur again,” stressed the councilor, who specified that the City Council has already provided the available images of the event and reported that at this time “they are investigating people who have participated in the fight, hoping to get results soon.

The operation, although it will especially affect the ‘Quadrilateral’, with those access controls and the increase in troops, will also act in other parts of the municipality where there is evidence of the celebration of ‘botellones’.

In addition, action will be taken on public transport, with the aim of “detecting minors with alcoholic beverages or possible risk situations”, and inspections will be “reinforced” in nightlife establishments, a measure that “has already been done for several weeks,” the mayor pointed out.

The forecast is to hold a new meeting in two weeks to analyze the results of the device, in order to determine its continuity.

“It is unfortunate that events like this or those that happened in other places occur and it is essential to make the necessary efforts so that they do not happen again,” concluded Alejandro Marrero.
