Navantia knows the advantages of Granadilla for offshore wind power

Directors of the public company Navantia, dedicated to shipbuilding, technology and infrastructure for offshore wind powervisited the facilities of the Technological Institute of Renewable Energies (ITER) and the Port of Granadilla, in a meeting organized by the Canarian Federation of Port Companies (Fedeport) to learn about the competitive advantages offered by this enclave in the south of Tenerife.

By Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife attended by its director, Javier Mora; Vice President of the Board of Directors and President of the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santiago Sesé, and the head of the Commercial unit, Elisa Zamora, while the Cabildo was represented by its president, Pedro Martín; the Vice President and Minister of Innovation, Enrique Arriaga, and the Second Vice President, Berta Pérez.

The company highlights the commitment to enhance the island’s industrial ecosystem

The visit, which began at ITER, focused on cKnow the facilities of the research center, showing spaces such as bioclimatic houses or specialized work centers. During the tour, Pedro Martín highlighted that “for companies such as Navantia, it is a guarantee to bet on spaces such as the Port of Granadilla, since they adjoin facilities such as those of this institute, which offers important possibilities for collaboration in terms of innovation and research linked to renewable energies. In his opinion, having the incorporation of this company would mean the possibility of “creating a space for public and private companies to coexist and cooperate, making the Island a benchmark in terms of innovation and the blue economy.”

Santiago Sesé, Vice President of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, highlighted the advantages that the port of Granadilla offers: «It is the largest industrial port in the Archipelago and offers facilities that allow the access of large vessels, a large internal and external storage capacity and a new industrial and logistics area under development, with land annexed to the port that guarantee its expansion possibilities.

The also president of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Chamber of Commerce, Santiago Sesé, thanked Navantia for its visit to the port and recalled that the Archipelago is a site proposed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition to implement transition policies and technologies towards an energy model sustainable, in line with the goals set in the 2030 Agenda.

The tour ended at the facilities of the Port of Granadilla, where Javier Mora explained the objective of the works being carried out and the future plans for the venue. The director of the Ports of Tenerife stressed that the Island offers the resources to promote industrial activity and, specifically, activity related to offshore wind power. He added that the Port Authority is taking steps in this direction, referring to the project competition process launched last month to build a 50-megawatt offshore marine park, which will occupy almost 630,000 square meters of the port.

Javier Herrador, Business Manager at Navantia Energías Verdes, stressed that from the public company “they have acquired a very prominent international position in the offshore wind energy market, the result of eight years of intense work in which we have signed 11 contracts for top-tier clients. Herrador highlighted the commitment to “provide the value of all this experience, helping to strengthen the industrial ecosystem of the Canary Islands, in general, and of Tenerife, in particular”, betting on “sustainable growth and generation of qualified employment”.
