SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 11 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands informs that this Friday the first container-type modular houses are being shipped that will arrive in La Palma in the coming days to alleviate the housing emergency of the people affected by the eruption of the volcano at Cumbre Vieja.

This first batch is part of the 85 prefabricated houses acquired by the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI) to be installed in Los Llanos de Aridane.

These container-type houses have been acquired following the instructions of the Los Llanos de Aridane City Council and are made up of two containers per dwelling that are joined to form a 60-square-meter module with three bedrooms, two furnished bathrooms and an equipped kitchen-living room.

The investment made by the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing to acquire these 85 modular homes is 5.3 million euros.

The new houses are embarking in the port of Villagarcía de Arosa, in Galicia, from where they will depart tonight to the Canary Islands.

After a small stopover in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the five houses will set sail for the island of La Palma, and it is estimated that the houses will arrive in La Palma approximately on February 22 or 23.

Once on land, the assembly team will proceed to unload the lot and move it to a plot prepared for houses and located in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane.

The assembly and assembly work is carried out in one day per house, by the team of workers who will proceed to form each property by welding two containers per unit.

These 85 prefabricated container-type homes will be installed on a site close to the one that is already being used for the installation of the first five wooden houses, also in Los Llanos.

Currently, the City Council is in charge of equipping said site to house the 85 homes that will arrive in the coming weeks, making the necessary water, electricity and sanitation connections.

The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing continues in this way with its objective of providing a home to all those affected by the eruption of the volcano who lost their only home, a goal for which nearly 300 homes have already been acquired, both already built as prefabricated, which are already being delivered to the victims.
