Titsa tests the energy efficiency of its new electric buses

public transportation company titsa tried yesterday the energy efficiency and the benefits of an electric bus on 12 lines in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, Puerto de la Cruz and Icod de los Vinos. The Councilor for Mobility of the Cabildo de Tenerife and president of Titsa, Enrique Arriaga, together with technical managers of the company, confirmed the benefits of the vehicle for public transport during a tour of different streets in the capital.

In this way, it will be analyzed whether the model, provided by the manufacturer Iveco, meets the demands of the service given the island’s orography. These tests are part of the strategy of the Cabildo, responsible for the company Titsa, to promote more sustainable and environmentally friendly public transport.

This new electric bus will provide service on the urban lines of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 903 (Muelle Norte-Las Moraditas), 921 (Circunvalación) and 923 (Muelle Norte-Moraditas Baja). The La Laguna lines that will be tested will be 206 (La Laguna–La Verdellada–San Benito–Interchanger), 224 (La Laguna–Punta del Hidalgo Interchange), 253 (La Laguna–Garimba Interchange) and 260. (La Laguna–Llano del Moro interchange). Likewise, Titsa will also test the new vehicle on routes 357 (Icod Station-Hospital del Norte), 372 (San Antonio-La Piedad), 381 (Avenida de Colón-Punta Brava), 382 (Avenida de Colón-Barrio Saint Antony). During the test, Titsa analyzes the real energy consumption in the service, taking into account the island’s orography. Likewise, the company will test the autonomy without recharging, as well as the charging times depending on the amperage used.

The electric vehicle used for the tests is the Eway model of the manufacturer Heuliz-Iveco of urban typology with integral low floor, 10.7 meters long and 2.33 meters wide, which can move 17 seated passengers, 55 standing and has two seats for wheelchairs. The electric bus has ZEN lithium batteries of 350 kilowatt hours and a recharging time of 4 hours. The insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, points out that this vehicle has “the smallest width on the market, so it is ideal for driving on streets that are not too wide and making tight turns.”
