The second patio has been recovered with the work of the first phase of the Palacio de Carta. Fran Palero

It is difficult to imagine the final result of the rehabilitation, since the image offered by the first floor of the Palacio de Carta de Santa Cruz is that of a work with everything to finish off. However, from the technical direction of the same and from the Santa Cruz City Council, they ensure that the most difficult has already been done and that it only remains to start closing what is open, all so that this space will be operational again in June. emblematic of the capital, which will house a tourist information point.

Yesterday, the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, together with the first deputy mayor, Guillermo Díaz Guerra; that of Works, Dámaso Arteaga, and the mayor delegate of the Development Society, Alfonso Cabello, visited the execution of a work that, as more important milestones, recovers for the public the second interior patio, whose access is through San José street , and the main patio that recovers its splendor. In addition, the two spaces that will make up the tourist information points are joined.

The Consistory has invested 1.3 million in the first phase of the rehabilitation of what was the first BIC of Santa Cruz.

Bermúdez valued this remodeling and rehabilitation “within the set of actions carried out by this local Administration in the area of Historical Heritage and property recovery, with an investment of more than 30 million” and argued that “it can be concluded that Santa Cruz It is the municipality with the highest investment for the recovery of its heritage in the whole of the Canary Islands”. For his part, Arteaga recalled that the project had to be modified after an old cistern was found in the building. “At that time the works had to be stopped, which have been restarted after the project management gave a solution,” he said. That solution has been to seal the cistern.

“This first phase of the works -Arteaga maintained- continues its course within the established period, despite the fact that the technicians were forced to make a break due to the need to carry out a disinsection treatment”. He also pointed out the use of a spray fire-fighting system and that “in addition, the main entrance of the building is being adapted to create an access for people with reduced mobility, very modern and unique in Spain, with a retractable staircase, as well as an elevator ”.
