The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Energy, has extended until December 31, 2023 the deadline for submitting applications for the processing of derived subsidies of the aid program for carrying out energy efficiency actions in agricultural holdings, based on the provisions of Royal Decree 1126/2021, of December 21, which modifies the original program.
The regional councilor responsible for the Autonomous Department, José Antonio Valbuena, pointed out that through this financing line “an amount of 699,806.50 euros is allocated to promote actions to improve the energy efficiency of irrigation facilities and improve both energy efficiency such as the use of renewable energies in agricultural exploitations”.

For her part, the General Director of Energy of the Autonomous Executive, Rosana Melián, stressed that these grants “seek to reduce final energy consumption and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and allow agricultural holdings and irrigation communities to undertake irrigation installations and renewal of pumping equipment or reform of the installations that consume thermal, electrical and own process energy, which pursue this purpose”.
All those natural or legal persons, private or public, owners of an agricultural exploitation, irrigation communities and other organizations whose purpose consists of the common management of water for agricultural irrigation or the common management of other fuels will be able to access these grants. and energy sources for agricultural purposes, as well as owners of irrigated farms that use irrigation networks that currently require the consumption of electricity for their operation.
Similarly, any organization or association of agricultural producers recognized by the competent authority, as well as renewable energy communities, citizen energy communities and energy service companies (ESCOs) or energy service providers, may participate in this concession.
