The Canary Islands have added this Wednesday 1,240 coronavirus infections and regretted, for the second consecutive day, nine deaths associated with the pathogen. The deceased, who were between 63 and 96 years old, suffered from previous illnesses and remained hospitalized. Seven of the deaths were recorded in Tenerife and two in Gran Canaria. Since the beginning of February, the Canarian Government department has reported 75 deaths on the Islands, 11 more than in the first nine days of January.

As reported the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Government, Tenerife yesterday added 531 cases to its statistics; Gran Canaria 488; Lancelot 112; Fuerteventura 39; La Palma 39; Iron 12; and La Gomera 19. With all this, in the autonomous community there are already 105,190 people afflicted with Covid152 more than in the previous 24 hours.

Tenerife has 49,017 positives, therefore, it continues to be the island that brings together the largest number of affected people. It is followed by Gran Canaria, with 46,239; Fuerteventura, with 7,013; Lanzarote, with 2,227; La Palma, with 495; La Gomera, with 111; and El Hierro, with 88.

Since the last count were issued 1,079 epidemiological discharges. In the hospital floors of the Archipelago, 541 people with coronavirus remain admitted -15 less than in the previous 24 hours-, while in the critical areas there are 76 patients -one less-.

During Tuesday, the professionals carried out 6,643 diagnostic tests – 1,289 less than on Monday. Over the course of the last seven days, 40,783 have been performed, of which 7,960 – 19.5% – have reflected a positive result for SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The cumulative incidence seven days ahead stands at 270 cases per 100,000 inhabitantswhile that corresponding to the last 14 days stands at 688.7 tables on the same number of people.

You have to remember that From this Thursday, the decree that allows dispensing with the mask in outdoor areas, as long as an interpersonal distance of at least 1.5 meters can be maintained, comes into force. As stated on the last day by the Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela of Armsin a document addressed to the directors of the centers, the mask will continue to be mandatory in classrooms and inside buildings, on school transport and at large events held in outdoor areas.

In the patios, the outdoor sports fields and in the open places destined for recreation, their use will not be mandatory., although the sectorization contemplated in the contingency plans must continue. In the letter, the counselor also guarantees that “special attention will be paid to the prevention of stigma against people who voluntarily maintain the use of masks in non-mandatory situations, promoting respect for diversity.”

In addition, in order to prevent the preventive resource from becoming a source of contagion, it is recommended that students carry a specific device to store it, as well as wear a spare mask.
