More than one million euros for the rehabilitation of 120 social housing

With an investment of more than one million euros, the public administrations rehabilitate the 120 official protection homes (VPO) that make up the Residencial Tamaide, in the municipality of Adeje. The Councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Zebenzuí Chinea, and the mayor of Adejero, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, visited the urban regeneration and renewal works (ARRU).

These works are part of the Urban and Rural Regeneration and Renovation Aid program (ARRU) 2018-2021, in which the Ministry of Public Works, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Island Corporation and the town councils involved participate. On this occasion, the State finances 40% of the work (474,000 euros), the Autonomous Community 30% (355,000 euros), the Cabildo de Tenerife contributes 16% (195,000 euros) and the Adeje City Council assumes the financing of the 13% (160,000 euros).

During the visit, Zebenzuí Chinea highlighted “the need to undertake this rehabilitation work on blocks I, II and III of Residencial Tamaide». The purpose of this intervention is to guarantee the habitability and health conditions of the affected homes, as well as to enhance the sustainability and energy efficiency of the homes, he explained. At the same time, he emphasized “the firm commitment of this government team with matters as important as housing”, especially in periods like the current one, “taking into account the situation in which we find ourselves as a result of the pandemic” .

The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, assured that, although this action may seem minor, “it is very important, because it means improving the quality of life of more than 120 families.” Fraga valued that all the public administrations have participated, “because it is about the Government, the Cabildo and the City Council being where the neighbors need us, that we invest in important and striking actions, but also in those that make up the daily aspects that improve people’s daily lives.

The progress in the rehabilitation of this officially protected housing complex coincides with the demand of the Municipal Group of the Canarian Coalition in the City Council of Adeje de la implementation of a real plan for access to housing. It is an initiative that they consider “vital in these times of pandemic” and that is not confirmed by the City Council, despite the recent transfer to the Canarian Housing Institute of two plots, located in the town of Armeñime, for the construction of 45 officially protected homes. A figure that the spokesman, Óliver Tacoronte, considers “very scarce”, since “Adeje has a serious problem of access to housing”.
