“I am not going to share the chupiguay vision that the spokesman for the government group has. Not a single criticism, it seems that they are doing everything right. I ask you for less empty words and more execution for some things”, declared yesterday the spokesman for the Popular Party (PP), Pedro González, during the celebration of an extraordinary plenary session at the request of his group to establish deadlines to adapt the Las Dehesas square, between Arguayoda and Bence streets, the entrance to the Las Adelfas urbanization.

“Regardless of the use that is going to be given to it, the visual impact that it produces to those who pass by is that of the most absolute abandonment”, he sentenced. González, who recalled the journey that this performance has had, which to date has not been executed. “I think that it is enough time since they entered to govern at least, so that they had the ditch covered”, he added.

The Councilor for Community Welfare, Flora Perera, explained that this is because the residents of this neighborhood told her that the priority for them was the Plaza de la Iglesia, in which the steps were completely restored, a new railing was put on and the pedestrian crossing was secured with fences because they had little security when crossing and confirmed that action will be taken shortly in the aforementioned square within the framework of a planning that contemplates the adaptation of these public spaces. “It is true that at first it was thought to do it with an external contract, but having staff thanks to the employment plans, we will act shortly,” he said.

However, his explanation did not convince the PP mayor, who reproached the Government “for saying that Las Dehesas square was prioritized when it was fixed two months ago and when what was done was a facelift not a comprehensive reform” . As if that were not enough, he said that he would like to know what is that planning “of which nobody has realized us”.

The CC spokeswoman, Sandra Rodríguez, expressed her concern that the intervention be carried out only with personnel from the employment plans “because later the problems arise again. That is why it did not seem bad to us that a project was made so that the works were more durable”.

It was not the only issue in which the opposition blamed the PSOE-ACP Executive for taking time to carry out proposals, many of them the result of motions, which, in their opinion, improve the lives of residents. In this sense, the government spokesman, David Hernández, emphasized that he is working to fulfill his political program and his social contract with the citizenry and that his concept of citizen participation was different from that of the opposition.

Despite the fact that the rest of the issues did not meet the requirements to be debated according to the report of the Municipal Secretary, the mayor, Marco González, opened a space for dialogue that the opposition took advantage of to blame him for the pending issues in which, in his opinion, the government did not do its homework in these two and a half years of mandate.

Among them, he cited the agreement to urge the Ministry of Development and the Government of the Canary Islands to install a permanent Maritime Rescue post in the city, and that according to David Hernández, all the steps were taken, it was sent to the Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, whose response is awaited.

This explanation “doesn’t matter, what it touches is to continue giving the can because there are many people who are waiting for this problem to be resolved,” Sandra Rodríguez snapped.

Other reproaches were directed at the announcement of the María Betancourt and Molina awards, the installation of furniture for users in the different public services, the contracting of a digital platform in different languages, measures to regulate street vending or the plan to eliminate architectural barriers.
