SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, February 5. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Insular Craft Company, which depends on the area of Socioeconomic Development, Employment and Foreign Action, has scheduled ten courses for craftspeople in training or those who want to recycle and expand their knowledge and skills.
The councilor for the area, Carmen Luz Baso, explained that the objective of this program is to help preserve, disseminate and promote the artisan trades of Tenerife: “In this way we contribute to the search for generational change and its sustainability over time, since these trades have a high cultural and heritage component, which are at high risk of disappearing”.
The first five courses that have been scheduled and whose enrollment will open online starting next Monday, February 7, are for beginners and will focus on chestnut, cane and wicker basket weaving, rosette making, fretwork, embroidery and cutlery. Likewise, another five are planned that will take place from the second semester and will attend to a more advanced state in the ceramic craft professions, both in pottery and in enamel, leather goods and traditional clothing.
The introductory courses will all take place in La Orotava, in the Museum of Ibero-American Crafts, except for Basketry, which will take place in the Casa Amarilla, in San José, municipality of San Juan de La Rambla.
The introductory basketry course will be held between March 7 and June 8, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; except Easter and May 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Initiation to the elaboration of rosettes will be in the morning, from 09.30 to 13.30 hours on March 4, 11, 18 and 25 and April 1. The draft, however, will be held in the afternoons, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on the same days.
